Saturn Mezuzah by Laura Cowan.
Height: 6.4"
This mezuzah was designed especially for the Spertus Museum Judaica Competition in Chicago. The piece reached the finals and was displayed in the museum. The main body of the mezuzah is made from lathe turned stainless steel - a pure rocket form symbolizing modernity. Encircling this are detachable discs of decreasing size inspired by the rings around the planet Saturn. The discs are made of anodized aluminum. The rocket seems to be flying unhindered by gravity as the method of attaching the mezuzah to the doorpost appears to be the shadow cast by the mezuzah.
