The Hebrew letters that appear in the center of the Star of David in this medallion spell the word hai,
which means life. Letters stand for numbers in Hebrew, and these two
letters also equal the number 18, bestowing special significance for
good fortune on this number in Jewish tradition. Around the inside of
the star, the familiar and much-loved words of Psalm 121, recited in
times of trouble or danger, are inscribed:
A
song for ascents. I turn my eyes to the mountains; from where will my
help come? My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth. He
will not let your foot give way; your guardian will not slumber; See,
the guardian of Israel
neither slumbers nor sleeps! The Lord is your guardian, the Lord is
your protection at your right hand. By day the sun will not strike you,
nor the moon by night. The Lord will guard you from all harm; he will
guard your life. The Lord will guard your going and coming now and
forever.
In
Kabalistic tradition, the Star of David, which became the symbol of the
Jewish People, has many additional meanings. It symbolizes the seven
directions of space: center, up, down, east, west, north, and south.
The intertwining of the upward- and downward-pointing triangles also
represent the joining of male and female energy with the male the
upper triangle and the female the lower one. In addition, each of the
four triangles on the sides represents one of the four elements: water,
fire, air, and earth.
The medallion is made of natural onyx stone and framed in 14-karat gold. The text is inscribed in 24-karat gold by means of an innovative technology developed by Nano-Gold, which, despite its size, ensures extremely high resolution. This enables a combination of miniature graphics or text in the design, which can be viewed with a magnifying glass (attached to each article).
