This beautiful Challah cover is made of appliquéd hand-woven raw silk. According to tradition two loaves of Challah are covered before Shabbat comes in. The Challah cover is embroidered in Hebrew with the words Shabbat and holiday (Shabbat ve'yom tov). The Challah cover is beautifully decorated with pomegranates and birds. Pomegranate is one of the symbols of the holy land and also represents wisdom and abundance. Bird is the ultimate symbol of freedom.

The works of Yair Emanuel have been influenced by his childhood experiences as well as his education at Israel's finest Art and Design school. Yair Emanuel was born in Kibbutz Shalavim, an Orthodox kibbutz located not far from the city of Mo'diin. His family soon thereafter moved to Jerusalem where he spent his formative years. Emanuel was accepted to the prestigious Bezalel academy of Art and Design where he developed a more pluralistic approach to the Jewish religion, further impacting the approach to his art. Vivid and harmonious colors characterize Emanuel's hand-painted ritual articles. Each wooden article is hand-painted with brush using acrylic colors and than lacquered. It can be used for eating and drinking, and can be washed in water since it is coated with several layers of lacquer.
