A Torah Pointer, also known as “yad” (Hebrew for “hand”), is a religious item used by the Reader in the Synagogue on Shabbat and Chagim when he reads from the holy Torah scroll. Since it is forbidden to touch the fragile parchment on which the sacred Torah is written, the Pointer enables him to accurately follow the text.
Throughout the centuries, Jews have devoted time and effort to ensure that ritual items, especially those used in the Synagogue, should be aesthetic and of the highest quality, bringing honor to G-d and expressing our love of His commandments. The pointer is no exception. Whilst small and durable – it will fit into your pocket – it will always be attractive, enhancing the Synagogue and its owner.
With these guidelines in mind, we present to you the Pointers created by the renowned Judaic artist Avner Agayof. Working from his design studio and workshop, and inspired by the Holy City of Jerusalem where he is located, he uses quality metals, especially aluminum, to create traditional Jewish items in striking contemporary shapes and colors. An Agayof item will always be cherished. Many are already collector’s items.
We offer you a choice of six Pointers. Each one, personally created by Agayof with his inimitable finish, will be recognized as a work of art. You will be proud to display it in your cabinet at home. You can take it to the Synagogue and when you are called up for the Torah reading, it will be so meaningful for you when you ask the Reader to use your personal Pointer. It will be a cherished gift to a bar mitzvah boy. Using his own pointer as he reads his Torah Portion will strengthen pride in his Jewish identity. We suggest offering it as an original gift to a new-born, expressing the fond blessing that the infant will grow to manhood and use the Pointer in good health and good spirits.
All our Agayof Pointers are produced from silver anodized aluminum with a smooth matt finish Metal bands on the Pointer add to the symmetry and each one has a pretty chain for easy hanging in its accorded place. Select the color to suit your taste and life-style. Choose from: an impressive silver, a distinguished black, a royal purple, a majestic blue, a daring pink or a classic gold. Whichever color you chose, you have acquired a meaningful item of Judaica that will never fade and will always be treasured for its artistic form and for what it represents.
